Can you love a stone ?
Kym Robinson, 2012.
One day a boy sought out an Alchemist.
He desired a potion of great repute.
Having already tried every vulgar Witches brew to the
sweet scented words of the Poet's quill.
He had braved distant Dragons and had become a noble Knight,
he had done great deeds and had compromised his code.
Yet his heart knew no rest in neither day nor night.
This Alchemist though old was said to be wise,
upon finding his location, the boy approached excitedly.
'Why have you come ?' asked the older man.
'I wish to win over the heart and hand of the most beautiful girl in all this land.'
'And to you this would be a great victory?'
'To secure the affections of my one true love. That it would.'
'But dear boyish knight it is for her to give and not for you to take.' The Alchemist replied.
The boy sat lost and ready to leave.
The Alchemist smiled and asked to hear the story of all the boys deeds.
When all was said and done, the boy exhausted from beginning to end, the Old man smiled and left.
Soon to return with a small vial and a rock.
'It is true that I make many a potion and that I can fix many an elixir but this little fact shall always remain.'
Pouring the sweet thick nectar from the glass vial upon the rock he looked to the boy.
After some moments he asked, 'what has happened?'
'nothing.' answered the boyish knight.
'Can a rock get drunk on ale ?' asked the old man of the boy.
'No it can not.' wearily smiled the boy.
'And that is why you can not fall in love with a stone. Because it has none to give in return.'
